It should be first considered,
The politicians are there to help the people get what they want.
Do you think the voters really wanted a fourteen trillion dollar debt?
And if consulted,
Would they have agreed,
Without a stick up?
Do you believe the people wanted,
All the crazy laws that plague the country?
No, the pressure groups did,
And the politicians gave in,
(As usual)
But had the people voted,
They would not have felt they had to yield.
After all, why should they give in?
They’re the people, the ultimate, the end,
The people at the top,
Where the buck must stop,
And I believe they would not be afraid to finish
What they didn’t start anyway.
Do you really believe the people wanted all these taxes?
But the politicians used every crisis, (and perhaps created some)
As Judas goats to lead the bleating sheep right in,
To a government Slaughter House of Tax and Spend.
Do you really think the people wanted all these foreign wars?
In which to have their sons and daughters killed,
And create a foreign devastation in the name of our democratic nation,
In wars inconsistent, probably unnecessary and not well thought out.
Now I do not mean to imply, the politicians are bad,
And the people perfect.
No, perfection in the people has never, never been my song,
And the people will do wrong, as they are human,
But do you really think the people as they vote directly,
Will do worse than the politicians voting indirectly have done?
It would take a blasted miracle to be that wrong!
And all things being equal, the people must win.
They have the best right to run the country it is theirs.
If you think the politicians can vote best,
Think about it! Now really!
Aren’t you being bigoted against the people,
As well as somewhat silly?
Not to give the people a chance to vote directly on issues and see!
The people have certain factors on their side,
The politicians don’t.
The people have a certain intuitive wisdom of the heart,
To be trusted over any intellectual’s mind,
As a mother knows instinctively how to rear a child,
Whereas books and statistics may be interesting,
But, then, ask the child which it wants.
The mother may be wrong on some issues in the short run,
But in the long run the heart knows far better,
Than the mind.
Yet as to the politicians mind,
Where is it?
Mentality is what the politicians lack,
When one political party says, White,
The other says, Black.
The minds of politicians are neither original or creative
And governing is a skill beyond them,
As they see governing as applying an ideology to the ignorant,
Who don’t care about ideology anyway,
If you starving,
Whatever ideology feeds you first is the one to go with,
And if the ship is sinking,
Whatever life boat comes first,
Is the best one to get in.
Otherwise you may drown while they debate what to do,
And someone ends up drowning while you talk on and on,.
Which is what politicians do: Debate forever how to save you while you are drowning.
And thereby never agreeing on any practical point of action, so you drown.
As politicians are ideologists with a remarkable and innate lack of common sense.
(That all this second hand and second rate debate on ideology is happening,
In the good old pragmatic U.S.A. Astonishes Me.
Well, that’s life and that’s politicians. As revenge,
Let’s turn the tables on these political ideologues and reduce their power,
GET DOWN TO WHATEVER IT TAKES AND WHATEVER WORKS.
That’s what I think the people want to do.
And there you have the sad story,
Of why there are few politicians in glory,
They are so many busy opposing each other,
And saying what the other fellow lacks,
They COULD NOT POSSIBLY GET TOGETHER to plan ahead,
For the country’s future,
As neither party can seem to think their way out of a plain brown paper sack,
But, man, can they tell you what the other party lacks,
And is that boring!
How boring can one side be?
Check the other side and see,
But both parties bore me,
As the fight for the people is not between parties and politicians,
But is the People Versus Politicians,
Which one is to have most power ?
Is now the question of the hour!
And I sincerely hope the final winner is the people.
