Checks and Balances

I have never known any people so naive and falsely trusting that they would write blank checks. Nearly anyone has that much sense. Even if you knew and trusted the person you were giving the blank bank check to, you did not write one and put it in into his or her hands. The reason was of course you were aware the check might be lost or stolen. Let’s give you an “A” for practical sense.
However, when it comes to the world of politics, millions of people with perfectly good practical sense write blank political checks to politicians whom it took plenty of money to elect and who were already mortgaged in their voting to political parties. On little issues this might not matter so much, but on big and important issues it is nothing short of a suicidal lack of forethought. Yet everyone in America is now happily doing this.. They then wind up paying the taxes or paying with the lives of their children in the military service ordered to wars not declared upon us and which were hardly wars in the first place. Often they were political stunts done partially for national or international political one-up-man-ship.
Being governed by politicians, the people have given blank checks to the politicians. This blank power given the government to be drawn on the people for is simply not wise. There ought to be limitations on the politicians account. Where there are limits now, they are simply other politicians trying to check other politicians. The people are not involved. Everything is done by the politicians class.
In my banking, there bis a stipulation that any check that is given over $10,000 on my account has to be called in for my approval. To me this is a common sense checking policy.. In politics there should be a limit on big government issues foisted on us by politicians in the same manner. In my thinking there should be a check on the politicians by the people’s voting directly on big issues Otherwise the people are at the mercy of politicians which is how the country has gotten into the enormous national debt it is in.
We may talk about checks and balances. But the people have no checks or balances on the politicians. That is why, if you can’t figure it out, the national debt has reached such an enormous sum that we have to talk default or inflation. (In my opinion default is dishonorable and inflation is a way of stealing from the people. If you are on a pension, see what inflation does to your pension. It steals the value.)
I suggest a fourteen trillion dollar debt would not have passed the direct vote of the people, Sensible people did not want this debt but the politicians did. This is a good example of why there should be checks and balances, direct votes by the people on issues, Politicians are famous for losing touch with reality. It is true there are many impractical voters in the country, but I suggest the people will have in most cases more wisdom and judgment than the politicians.
Would you rather be governed by the direct votes of the people on big issues than politicians? I certainly find the people the better alternative to the politicians and the limited either/or political choices we are given from the two parties.
To give a blank check to politicians to do whatever they wish to do is the way the nation got into the enormous debt it is now in. I call for limitations and direct votes by the people on big issues like taxes, borrowing, finances, wars and some others to be established.
Now I have been told at times that if you give the people a direct vote they will vote the country to ruin on self-indulgent issues.. I suggest this is simply not true. I believe the country is more likely to go broke from the spending of politicians trying to bribe the people into electing and re-electing them, so they can keep their power and their salaries and expense accounts.
If ruin is to fall upon us, it will be through the politicians who refuse to face bad issues and try to bribe the people with ‘earmarks’ to get elected. (In a bill in 2011 one bill had 6,000 earmarks.)
It is more likely the freedom of politicians to vote what they think will serve them politically that is bringing on the ruin of the country. I suggest the good people of this country who earn money, submit to discipline in jobs, and are the backbone of the values of the nation have better values and are more in touch with reality than the politicians, It is their vote, the people’s vote, that should count on great issues, not what mere parasitic politicians decide. (We try as a nation to cast out the defects of other nations when we have these defects in our own third world of slums and poverty first. Look to thyself, sick man, before you medicate others.
Our country needs the voting of the people on direct issues, which can be done through the benefits of modern technology (and which will eventually come by the decrees of history) and which will give more and better democracy to this country. This voting directly on the great issues by the people is needed as a check and balance on the politicians who are seem often drunk on party, re-election money and publicity appeal as well the false reality of life in Washington. (Whatever Washington is, it is not the real or right America but just another moral abscess on the acne marked face of power.)
]The idea so pitifully held by those whose heads are in the sand about politics and government, is that replacing one set of politicians with another, Frick with Frack, is the answer is nonsense. We sincerely need to address the real problem.
We need to take most of the important votes away from the politicians and give the power to the people. Let the real America be heard and not these debt soaked, bankrupting, power hungry and self-serving politicians. Let democracy take another step in its inevitable and ineluctable advance to a real and better democracy where there is more power to the people.
